The Weekend

2 min read

Just a quick personal journal today. For all my dA friends who know Kat (Kataclysme; Nymeekat) and I, I just wanted to let you know we are still together and doing quite well. We met right here on dA sometime ago and despite the distance, we grow stronger as each day and month passes. I wouldn't exactly recommend a long distance relationship to anyone, but when you find the love of your life you find a way to make it happen. Enjoy the memorial day weekend all. I know we are! :)

I am a huge movie fan and frequent a few movie websites. Posts and colums similar to what I have below have been making the rounds lately, so I though I would do my own. Most of the note consists of quotes from movies I have loved or just lines that stuck in my mind. When I'm with good friends or my brothers we will often throw these out there at warp speed! If you can place even half  the quotes with the movies they go with, you too are a movie geek and welcome to the club!

Why I love the movies...

Because…in space no one can hear you scream.
Because…she can make the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs.
Because…KHAANNNNNNN!!!
Because… the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one.
Because…get your hands off me you damn dirty ape!
Because…you..shall..not..PASS!
Because…he doesn't know about second breakfast.
Because…what do you mean "Flash Gordon approaching"?!
Because…I'm Batman!
Beacause…My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.
Because…now I'm a flying talking donkey!
Because…in the morning, I'm making waffles!!
Because…that's not flying, that falling with style.
Because…You mean Dad's in trouble, or Dad is the trouble?  I mean, either he's "in" trouble, or he's "going" to be.
Because…Up where they walk, up where they run. Up where they stay all day in the sun. Wanderin' free - wish I could be. Part of that world

Because…Prince Ali! Mighty is he! Ali Ababwa. Strong as ten regular men, definitely!
Because…It's a kind of magic! *snaps fingers*
Because…there can be only one!!
Because…I like them French fried potaters, ummmm.
Because…I played Salieri. (And that is a real challenge!)
Because…large Marge sent me.
Because… Stupid is as stupid does
Because… I'm not a smart man... but I know what love is.
Because… Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks.
Because…the flux capacitor is what makes time travel possible.
Because…this one goes up to 11.
Because…Here lies David St. Hubbins... and why not?
Because…you get a bowl of soup with that hat?
Because…you need to pick up that blood.
Because…a pond would be good for you.
Because…you f***ed up, you trusted us.
Because…fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son.
Because…we're going streaking in the Quad!
Because…morning, shitters full!
Because...two men enter, one man leaves!
Because…SQUIRREL!!!!!
Because…Barry Manilow DOES know that you raid his closet.
Because…I am father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.
Because…cause if you build it they will come.
Because…I thought you'd be bigger.
Because…I'll be your huckleberry.
Because…My name is Dances with Wolves. I have nothing to say to you. You are not worth talking to.
Because…he expects me to talk? No, he expects me to die!
Because…are you gonna  pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?
Because…a man's gotta know his limitations.
Because…Fat man, you shoot a great game of pool.
Because…I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you every day for a year.
Because…I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that has always been enough.
Because…You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you.
Because…I'll make him an offer he can't refuse.
Because…they named the DOG Indiana.
Because…it rubs the lotion on its skin.
Because ...I love lamp.
Because…nobody makes me bleed my own blood!
Because…I thought they smelled bad…on the outside!
Because…of Zuzu's petals.

Because of John Williams scores.
Because of Danny Elfman scores.
Because of Randy Newman soundtracks.
Because the movies "Highlander" and "Flash Gordon" would not be the same movies without Queen's scores.
Because of Stanley Kubrick's vision.
Because of Francis Ford Coppola's craft.
Because of Tim Burton's "outside the box" zaniness.
Because of Ridley Scott's utter awesomeness.
Because of Clint Eastwood's surprising heart and intellect.

Because of:

I've spent the last 48 hours trying to figure out why I'm so taken by the death of Whitney Houston. She had the voice of an Angel, no doubt. She was an exceptionally attractive woman on top of that too. Her life was always something to speculate on. But I was never a HUGE WH fan. The fact that she lead such a depraved personal life puts me off without a doubt. But I try not to cast stones.

Who knows how we would react in the spotlight she was in? So what really bothers me here? It's what she was I think...an 80's icon. Her songs were some of the ones I grew up with. Love or hate, they were there when I learned how to love and hate and wonder. By default, she is one of the soundtracks of my life.

I was well aware of the older version of "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton. My mother is a huge Dolly fan! But her version is the one most people will remember. She only made a few movies, but she left her mark there too! The Huston/Costner connection in "The Bodyguard" is what made that movie a hit when it would have been a flop with lesser performances. My point I suppose is that we morn our childhood (or younger year) contemporaries regardless of whether we loved them at the time of their fame. As far as Whitney, I respected her then and grew to love what she did later on. RIP Angel-voice...

I've neglected my journal here and I am sorry. I've been in a pretty expansive creative lull. I do have a few nice photo's that I've posted, but my true love...poetry has been dry. I have a good number of unfinished, but only one or two I think will pan out. One is close and will be published here in a few days. In the meantime, I have a new profile pick! Yaaaahhh! lol Okay, not a big deal but I did take it on a six day vacation to see my baby who some of you know. Bed and breakfast, pool, drinks in a church, some culture, friends and family, and lots of food and....yeah. Now you know why I have that twinkle in my eye! ;) FB friends can check out all the pics.

Even as I approach an age where I never considered abiding, I am still learning things. Still growing and changing...maybe at a greater rate than in my 30's. That is surprising for certain. I will continue to try and put this to "paper" for you all to read. I thank my many watchers and friends who stop by to look and comment. I will be more active I think in the next few months. Stay classy dA! And thanks for stopping by....

Slumber

5 min read

We slumber much of our lives. Many of us never truly awaken. We work mindless, soul-sapping jobs. We come home and further medicate ourselves with celebrity gossip, television, porn, booze, drugs, religion...the list goes on. It's so much easier to let ourselves be carried along, to let others decide for us: what to eat and what to think and what to believe. And when we do that, we let our true selves slumber.

Western society now discourages us to break ranks, to be the pioneering individuals that once made this a great country. Okay, we encourage it in a few acceptable areas such as the arts. But we crush this spirit when it comes to politics, religion, innovation in almost everything else. That is why it's all the more remarkable now for someone like Steve Jobs or Ron Paul to even exist. They are their own person outside of the pressures and beliefs of the masses. They do not slumber.

How can we start to be more awake, more aware? I can only relate how I go about it. It starts with yourself first and foremost. There are far too many people out there willing to tell you the what, who, why and how of you and your life. What gives them the right to do this? Because they can act? Because they can hit a baseball?! Maybe they wear a suit well and can talk to the masses with the appropriate mock outrage. Really? So this is why we allow them to lead us by the nose?

This is where I start, with a healthy disbelief. I don't go to celebrities for my news and opinions. I don't let McFox news fill my head with their agenda filled dogma. If I am really interested in something I research it extensively. Can I still get it wrong...without a doubt. But I stand a heck of a better chance that way of finding the truth.

Which leads to the next point. Conspiracy theories, the elite, plots and plans and agendas. The Occupy Wallstreet movement is very interesting in the fact that it finally brings a little of this to the forefront. Too often in the past people would just look at those who talked about the big guys pulling the strings on all of us down here and shake their heads. Nuts, crazies, they see ghosts everywhere was the common opinion!

True, there are a lot of crazy people out there with even crazier theories, but if you don't think there is a lot behind the scenes that goes on, and negatively affects the little people of the world you are very naive. There are a lot of bad people in high places and they don't give a damn about you or I! The difference now with OWS is that people are taking notice. They are not so well off now, so slowly they awaken.

My hope is that we emerge from a winter both as individuals and as a society, more caring and involved. That our spring is one filled with more activism and knowledge of how and what our country and society as a whole should be. Decide how you can best serve that cause and awaken. But always remember it starts with the honesty we give to and about ourselves. You cannot help others if you have not first helped yourself.   I encourage you all to become free thinkers and question everything. We can all make a difference.

"winter slumbering in the open air,
wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring !"
